NS 9610 Fall protection
NS 9610 describes requirements for fall protection course companies
The purpose of a standard for fall protection is to elaborate and specify requirements in the regulations to achieve safe work at height.
NS 9610 moves away from the term "Basic fall protection" which has been used in other contexts. A main principle in NS 9610 is that the candidate should receive relevant and necessary training in the use of fall protection equipment to be used. Training should reflect how the equipment is to be used in a given area/environment.
The use of course companies that are certified under this scheme should give the customer confidence that the training provided reflects the work situation in which the candidate will work.
Among other things, the standard specifies requirements for:
- Execution
- Training
- Fall prevention and fall arrest solutions
- Rescue
- Instructors
- Training activities
- Instructors
The training is divided into areas based on applications:
- Scaffolding
- Mast/antenna/drilling tower
- Work towards the edge/work on sloping surfaces
- Enclosed rooms/shafts/basins/tanks
- Hoists/baskets/climbing scaffolding/hanging scaffolding
- Wind power
- Work on wooden poles and masts
- Petroleum operations
- Full training
Course companies can be certified according to all or individual areas of the standard.
The course company must be able to offer training in all subjects in the relevant area.
If the company is certified for individual areas, the certification can be expanded subsequently.
The general principles for implementing fall protection (chapters 5-10) should be reflected in curricula and training.
The standard also describes requirements for training in rescue equipment. Training in the use of rescue equipment is divided into 3 areas:
- Self rescue
- Camera rescue
- Organized rescue
The course company must offer training in self-rescue and in rescue equipment that is relevant to the areas in which the course company is to provide training.
